A Nordstrom Rack store is headed to Seminole City Center, taking over the space currently occupied by Sportsman's Warehouse at 7967 113th Street North. The planned store would span 32,914 square feet, and construction bidding documents name EMJ Construction as the general contractor on the project.

Sportsman's Warehouse, which opened at the Seminole location in September 2022, is scheduled to close on January 11, 2027, according to St. Pete Rising. The outdoor retailer is currently offering 25% off merchandise ahead of the closure, though the discount excludes guns, ammunition, and optics. No opening date has yet been announced for the incoming Nordstrom Rack.

What's Changing Inside the Building

The renovation plans call for reworking the single-story retail space with a new sales floor, employee offices, and stock storage areas, per the same report. Builders also plan new interior finishes, partitions, fixtures, and updated electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems, along with exterior upgrades that include canopies above the entrance and exit.

Nordstrom Rack is the Seattle-based off-price division of Nordstrom, offering apparel, shoes, accessories, beauty products, and home decor at discounts advertised up to 70%. Its stores carry many of the same brands sold at full-line Nordstrom locations, with merchandise sourced from Nordstrom stores, the company website, and items bought specifically for Rack locations.

A Local Legacy Dating Back to a Seattle Basement

The concept traces back to 1973, when the first Nordstrom Rack opened as a clearance outlet in the basement of the downtown Seattle Nordstrom, the St. Pete Rising report notes. The Tampa Bay area's relationship with the brand started decades later, when Nordstrom opened its full-line store at International Plaza in 2001. Its first Tampa-area Rack followed at Walters Crossing in 2010, with a Brandon location opening in October 2014 and a later addition in Clearwater inside a converted two-level former Sears Auto Center next to Countryside Mall.

The Seminole project fits into a broader wave of Rack expansion across Florida. Nordstrom Rack opened a 24,700-square-foot store at The Plaza at Citrus Park in Tampa on October 22, a project the retailer first announced in July 2025, according to Tampa Bay Business & Wealth. That outlet also reported two other Florida openings this fall, in Pompano Beach on September 17 and at Lake Nona West in Orlando on September 24.

Nordstrom had announced the Pompano Beach location back on June 10, 2025, saying it planned to open a Rack at Pompano Citi Centre in fall 2026, according to a Nordstrom Newsroom release. Separate store openings in Coral Springs, Melbourne, Lakeland, and Estero were also planned for fall 2025, according to SGB Media.

Sportsman's Warehouse Faces Pressure Elsewhere

The Seminole closure comes as Sportsman's Warehouse navigates broader financial strain. The company said it had identified about five stores nationwide for potential closure due to underperformance and lack of profitability, according to Fast Company. The outlet also reported that Camping World, a related outdoor retail player, posted a net decrease of 10 store locations in 2025 after consolidating 17 locations.

More Change Coming to the Shopping Center

The Nordstrom Rack move is one of several shifts underway at Seminole City Center, whose tenants include The Fresh Market, HomeGoods, LA Fitness, and Ulta Beauty. Beach Pizza is now open at 7724 113th Street North, while Pepe's Cantina is preparing to open at 7756 113th Street North in the former Maple Street Biscuit Company space, per St. Pete Rising's reporting. Shake Shack is also coming to the shopping center, set to replace Pieology Pizzeria at 1165 Park Boulevard.
