Norfolk gets one more summerlike day Thursday, with mostly cloudy skies and temperatures climbing to about 80 degrees. Then the forecast takes a sharp turn: showers and thunderstorms arrive late Thursday night, followed by a potentially soaking Friday.

The latest outlook from the National Weather Service is a meaningful update to Hoodline’s earlier Norfolk forecast, with rain totals now looking higher and the wettest conditions more clearly focused on Friday. No watches, warnings or advisories are currently posted for the area.

Warm Thursday Sets Up A Wet Friday

Thursday may bring light scattered showers through just after daybreak, with mostly cloudy skies. SSW winds will increase to 10 to 15 knots after about 15Z, and the chance of rain stays low through the day.

Showers may begin late Thursday night, with thunderstorms becoming more likely after midnight. Friday brings widespread rain, a high near 74 degrees and showers and thunderstorms, with 1 to 2 inches of rain possible and locally higher amounts in some spots.

A few stronger storms could develop, particularly across southeastern Virginia, although widespread severe weather is not expected. The combination of heavy rain, reduced visibility and occasional thunder could make Friday a rougher day for driving and outdoor plans.

Sunshine Returns For The Weekend

Rain should taper off from west to east Friday afternoon into Friday night. Saturday then turns mostly sunny with highs in the mid to upper 60s, while Sunday looks sunny with highs also in the mid to upper 60s.

Monday stays sunny with highs in the mid to upper 60s, followed by another mild day Tuesday near 67. Overnight lows settle into the mid to upper 30s, with low 40s by the coast, so the forecast shifts quickly from summerlike Thursday to a more typical November pattern by the start of next week.
