A worker was taken to a hospital Tuesday after an excavator overturned during unloading at a north Houston business. Harris County ESD 17 said the worker was moving the machine off a trailer when it tipped over, according to KHOU 11. The business is at 11211 North Freeway Service Road, near the North Freeway.
What is known about the rescue
The machine pinned portions of the worker’s thigh and side, leaving the worker unable to get free without help, KHOU reported, citing ESD 17. Little York Fire Department firefighters freed the worker, while Harris County Emergency Corps paramedics provided care at the scene. The worker was then transported to a nearby hospital, according to the fire department report described by KHOU. Officials had not released details about the worker’s injuries or condition, and the cause of the rollover was not immediately available.
Loading and unloading safety context
The incident occurred as the excavator was being moved from a trailer. OSHA guidance says workers loading and unloading materials should be instructed in safe procedures appropriate to the material they handle. That general guidance does not establish what procedures were used in this case or explain why the excavator overturned.
The Texas Department of Insurance’s 2023 fatal-injury report counted 126 construction fatalities, the highest number among goods-producing industries. That statewide total covers construction fatalities broadly; it does not identify excavator rollovers or provide evidence about the circumstances of Tuesday’s incident.
