A 49-year-old man was stabbed in the chest Monday night in Norwalk, and police say they tracked down a suspect at his home and took him into custody without incident. Officers responded to a report of a stabbing at around 9:58 p.m., found the victim on the ground, and rushed him to the hospital for treatment.
According to News 12 New York, officers responded to 42 Woodward Avenue around 9:58 p.m. after callers reported a man had been stabbed and that the suspect had fled the scene in a black Honda Accord. Officers broadcast a description of the suspect and his vehicle, secured the scene, and interviewed witnesses while paramedics worked to stabilize the victim. Police said the man received emergency medical care before responders rushed him to Norwalk Hospital for treatment, and officials had not released an update on his condition as of Wednesday.
Conflicting Accounts of Where Police Called and Where Fulton Was Found
Exactly where officers were initially dispatched is described differently across local outlets. News 12 New York reported officers responded to 42 Woodward Avenue, while NBC Connecticut reported officers were called to an address on Woodland Avenue at around 9:58 p.m. Reports also differ on where the suspect was ultimately located: NBC Connecticut and Daily Voice both reported that police found Walter Fulton, 28, at his home on Harbor Avenue, while WFSB reported he was located at his residence on Woodward Avenue.
Despite the discrepancies over addresses, accounts agree on how the knife was recovered. Police said the knife used in the stabbing was found in the parking lot of 22 Woodward Avenue, according to NBC Connecticut, a detail also reported by WFSB. Fulton was taken into custody without incident, per News 12 New York.
Charges, Bond, and an Unanswered Motive
Daily Voice reported that Fulton was charged with first-degree assault, second-degree threatening, second-degree breach of peace, and carrying a dangerous weapon. He was being held on a $200,000 bond, the outlet reported, and WFSB similarly reported his bond was set at $200,000 and that he was scheduled to appear in court Wednesday.
Norwalk detectives interviewed more witnesses, collected evidence, and reviewed surveillance footage as the investigation continued, per the same Daily Voice report. Police did not say what led to the stabbing or whether Fulton and the victim knew each other, leaving the motive for the attack unresolved as of Wednesday.
