A Stanislaus County jury found 41-year-old Ewan Wallace guilty of pandering and attempted pimping, District Attorney Jeff Laugero announced, according to the Modesto Bee. The verdict concerns those offenses; it is not a conviction for human trafficking in this case.
Wallace could receive nearly 15 years in state prison, the Bee reported, citing the district attorney’s office. FOX40 also reported that he faces a potential prison term of about 15 years. No sentencing date or final sentence is provided in the cited reports.
The Turlock operation
The Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office’s Special Victims and Human Exploitation and Trafficking Unit conducted the operation, the Bee reported. Its account says Wallace traveled from the Oakland area, contacted a decoy social media account and planned to take the person he believed he was messaging to a motel. The reported arrest followed an attempt to recruit women for commercial sex, which prosecutors presented as evidence in the case.
Prior conviction
Wallace also has a prior felony human-trafficking conviction and served a state prison sentence for that offense, according to the district attorney’s office as reported by FOX40. This prior conviction is separate from the pandering and attempted-pimping verdict in Stanislaus County.
