A 57-year-old Oklahoma man has died nearly a month after a motorcycle crash in Bentonville, according to a newly released police summary. James Franklin, of Claremore, was driving a 2015 Harley-Davidson north on North Water Tower Road on Oct. 3 when his motorcycle crossed into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a pickup truck.
Franklin was driving near the intersection with East Battlefield Boulevard at about 5:46 p.m. when he crossed the centerline into the southbound lane of traffic, according to a recently released fatal crash summary from the Bentonville Police Department detailed by the Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. His motorcycle then struck the front of a southbound 2018 Chevrolet Silverado, the summary states. An earlier report on the crash had said officers responded around 5:53 p.m. that Saturday, a detail that differs slightly from the time cited in the later summary.
Franklin was taken to Mercy hospital in Springfield, Missouri, where he died from his injuries on Oct. 27, nearly a month after the wreck, according to the same report. The driver of the pickup has not been named in the police summary, and the circumstances of that driver's account were not detailed.
Clear Skies, Dry Roads at Time of Crash
Cpl. Kyler Pinkley, who responded to the collision, reported that the weather was clear and the road was dry at the time of the crash, leaving no apparent environmental factor in the centerline crossing. Franklin's obituary was shared online by MMS - Payne Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Claremore, Oklahoma, according to the report.
Second Fatal Benton County Motorcycle Crash Within Days
Franklin's death came just weeks after another fatal motorcycle crash elsewhere in Benton County. A motorcycle crash in Benton County left one person dead the day before Franklin's Bentonville crash, according to nwahomepage.com. That crash happened around 11:42 p.m. on Oct. 2 near Heritage Bay in Prairie Creek, when a motorcyclist was traveling east on State Highway 12.
Arkansas State Police identified the motorcyclist in that crash as Spencer Park, 38, of Wagoner, Oklahoma, per the same report. Investigators said the rider of the Harley-Davidson drove left of center and hit a guardrail; Park was ejected from the motorcycle and pronounced dead at the scene. As with the Bentonville crash, conditions were reported clear and dry at the time.
Other Recent Motorcycle Deaths in the County
Benton County has seen other fatal motorcycle crashes in recent memory. A report dated May 30, 2026, said two people were killed after a motorcycle left the roadway and hit a cable barrier on eastbound U.S. Highway 412 near the Benton-Washington county line, according to Arkansas State Police as cited by KHBS. In March 2025, a Fayetteville man died in a motorcycle accident in rural Benton County, according to The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.
