The shooting was reported at 3:46 p.m. Wednesday in the 3400 block of Preakness Drive, according to KAIT8. Jonesboro police said officers have detained one person of interest in connection with the shooting, the same report notes. The Criminal Investigation Division arrived on scene and took over the inquiry, according to the outlet's reporting. As of Wednesday afternoon, it remained unclear whether that person faces any charges.
Investigation Still in Early Stages
The investigation into the incident is in its early stages and information is limited, KAIT8 reported Wednesday. Police have not detailed a motive or described what led up to the gunfire on Preakness Drive. WREG also confirmed that the investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue gathering information at the scene.
Wednesday's shooting adds to a string of gun violence cases Jonesboro has faced this year. A separate, unrelated shooting in the 3500 block of Fairview Drive left one person dead from an apparent gunshot wound, according to KJNB, which reported that the victim in that case had not been identified at the time. No connection between the two cases has been established.
Police have not said when more details, including the identities of those involved, might be released. The case remains under investigation as detectives continue working the scene on Preakness Drive.
