Two Bridgeport men are facing a long list of charges after police say they broke into an occupied home on Kent Avenue early Sunday, as a resident held his bedroom door shut from inside to keep them out before officers caught them still trying to escape the house. Syncaire Williams, 20, and Michael Lozada, 21, were taken into custody after one was found trying to smash a kitchen window and the other was caught walking out the front door in a ski mask. The residents inside the home were not hurt.
According to Connecticut Post, officers responded to the home just after midnight after a caller reported hearing an intruder inside. When police arrived, they heard the sounds of items breaking inside the residence and entered through a rear door that had already been damaged, the outlet reports.
Inside, officers found Lozada leaving through the front door wearing a ski mask; he surrendered without incident, though police say he initially gave them a false name. Williams, meanwhile, was located in the kitchen attempting to smash a window to escape, according to the same report.
Caller Describes Barricading Himself Inside His Bedroom
The 911 caller told police that one or both of the suspects tried to break through his bedroom door while he pushed against it from inside to keep them out, the station's report states. Residents of the home were inside during the incident but were uninjured, police said. Separately, NBC Connecticut reports that the 20-year-old Bridgeport man was found in possession of the 911 caller's wallet.
Outside, investigators found the suspects' car parked in the rear of the home's driveway with its engine still running. Per the ctpost.com account, the vehicle was identified as a stolen car from Derby and had a stolen license plate attached to it.
Multiple Charges, Matching Bonds
Williams was charged with home invasion, first-degree burglary, three counts of disorderly conduct, sixth-degree larceny, three counts of second-degree reckless endangerment, interfering with an officer, second-degree criminal mischief and possession of a controlled substance, according to police. Lozada faces charges of home invasion, first-degree burglary, three counts of disorderly conduct, possession with intent to sell, three counts of second-degree reckless endangerment, and theft or possession of a number plate.
Both men were given a $100,000 bond, police said. The Bridgeport Police Department says people named in its arrest blotters have not been found guilty unless convicted by the state's judicial system.
