A major crash on SH 99 trapped one person inside a vehicle Tuesday afternoon, sending firefighters and EMS crews scrambling to free them near the eastbound Gleannloch Forest ramp in northwest Harris County. Constable deputies were already on scene as rescue efforts got underway.
According to a post from Mark Herman, Harris County Constable Precinct 4, the crash involved one person trapped inside a vehicle, and firefighters and EMS personnel were working to extricate that victim as of the post's publication at 18:37 UTC Tuesday. The post, headlined “Precinct 4 Live: Major Accident With Person Trapped,” did not detail the person's condition, the cause of the wreck, or how many vehicles were involved.
Precinct 4 urged drivers to avoid the area, expect delays, and leave room for emergency crews to safely do their work. The post offered no word on which lanes were affected or how long the disruption might last.
A Stretch of Highway With a History
This isn't the first serious wreck to hit this patch of SH 99. In May 2018, a crash at the same Gleannloch Forest location was reported just before 2 p.m., according to ABC13 Houston, which reported that the driver died at the scene while a passenger was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital in The Woodlands.
More recently, in August, a fiery single-vehicle crash on SH 99 near Longenbaugh Road left a driver dead, the station reported, noting Houston TranStar logged that incident at around 9:18 p.m. on a Monday night. Neither of those earlier wrecks provides any additional detail about Tuesday's crash near Gleannloch Forest, which remains a separate incident.
Extrications Not Uncommon Along the Grand Parkway
Vehicle extrications have cropped up elsewhere along SH 99 as well. FOX 26 Houston reported that a concrete-truck crash at Cypress Rosehill once shut down all main lanes of SH 99 Grand Parkway West, with the Cy-Fair Fire Department's Technical Rescue Team assisting the Spring Creek Fire Department in freeing a trapped occupant, who was then flown to a hospital by LifeFlight.
No further details on Tuesday's crash near Gleannloch Forest — including the trapped person's condition or what caused the wreck — had been released as of the time of the constable's post.
