A person was shot Saturday morning in Baltimore's Morrell Park neighborhood, and police took a person of interest into custody right at the scene. Officers responded to the 2600 block of Washington Boulevard Saturday morning after a report of a shooting, finding the person wounded before they were rushed to a nearby hospital.
According to WBFF, the person was reported to be in stable condition after being transported for treatment. A preliminary investigation indicated the person had been involved in a verbal and physical altercation before the shooting, though investigators have not released further details about what led up to the gunfire. Police have not said how the person taken into custody is connected to the shooting or whether that individual has been charged.
Detectives Press for Tips in Overnight Shooting
Detectives are investigating the incident and are asking anyone with additional information to call 410-396-2499, per the same report. Tipsters can also reach out anonymously through Metro Crime Stoppers, which accepts anonymous text tips and offers a hotline at 1-866-7lockup.
The shooting adds to a string of violent incidents that have rattled the small Southwest Baltimore neighborhood over roughly the past year. A 14-year-old boy was fatally shot in Morrell Park on a Saturday afternoon in December 2025, according to The Banner, which reported he was taken to the hospital in critical condition and later pronounced dead, with police investigating the case as a homicide.
A Neighborhood That's Seen This Before
Other shootings have struck the same stretch of Southwest Baltimore in recent memory. WBFF has reported that a 39-year-old woman was shot near a Royal Farms on the 2700 block of Washington Boulevard, suffering a non-life-threatening gunshot wound, and that an unidentified man was later found fatally shot near Washington Boulevard and South Monroe Street and pronounced dead by medics. The outlet also described a 39-year-old man killed on Grinnalds Avenue just days after a 38-year-old man was killed on the same street, though the years of those earlier incidents were not specified in that reporting.
At one point, WBFF reported that at least three homicides struck Morrell Park within a single May, accounting for 75% of homicides in the Southwestern police district and 11% of the citywide total that month. Residents have described the toll it's taken on daily life. “It's normal to hear a gunshot now,” Morrell Park resident Corrie Meador told the outlet, adding that she and her family wanted to leave the neighborhood altogether: “We want to get out.”
The Banner reported that as of mid-December 2025, Baltimore had recorded 128 homicides and 301 nonfatal shootings, with both figures down from the prior year. It remains unclear whether Saturday's shooting in Morrell Park is connected to any of the neighborhood's earlier incidents, and police have not indicated a motive beyond the preliminary account of an altercation preceding the gunfire.
