QuickChek has opened a 6,730-square-foot convenience store at 32 Wolf Road in Colonie, marking the New Jersey-based chain's second Capital Region location in under five months, according to NEWS10. The store is already running around the clock, seven days a week, with a full-service deli, made-to-order meals and both indoor and outdoor seating for customers who want to linger over their coffee.
The Colonie opening follows QuickChek's first Capital Region store, which opened in Brunswick on June 30, according to NEWS10 ABC. A formal ribbon-cutting for the Wolf Road location is scheduled for November 12, giving the store a few extra days of soft operation before the official celebration. Shoppers can already grab fresh bakery items, hot and iced coffee, grab-and-go meals, energy drinks, candy and snacks, and the store also includes no-fee ATMs, fueling stations and two vacuum stations for drivers looking to tidy up before hitting the road.
Grand-Opening Deals and Rewards Perks
To mark the new location, QuickChek is rolling out a round of grand-opening deals, including seven free coffees, a $3 grab-and-go breakfast, $4.99 six-inch subs and subwiches, and a 99-cent fountain drink with the purchase of any sub, as noted by NEWS10. There's also a buy-one-get-one-free offer on select candy bars like Crunch, Butterfinger and Baby Ruth, plus QC Rewards points on every purchase during the promotion. The chain's QC Rewards loyalty program lets customers earn points on qualifying purchases and unlock personalized offers, and QuickChek also offers mobile ordering and delivery through its app.
Don Williams, QuickChek's vice president of operations, commented on the opening, according to the same NEWS10 report.
A Bigger Regional Push, With Some Fuzzy Math
QuickChek currently operates more than 150 stores across New Jersey, New York's Hudson Valley and Long Island, and the company has said it plans to expand further into the Capital Region, with proposed plans for other parts of Albany County, Clifton Park and Halfmoon. Exactly how large that expansion will be depends on which report you read. NEWS10 previously reported that QuickChek had two approvals for eight proposed locations, while C-Store Dive reported that the chain had begun permitting for at least eight Albany-area locations in Colonie, Brunswick, Latham, Clifton Park and Halfmoon, with two already approved. A report from Times Union (via Yahoo Finance), meanwhile, put the number at nine locations in the Albany area plus one near Hudson, with three stores approved for development — a count that doesn't match the other outlets' tallies.
The chain's store-count figures carry a similar wrinkle: Yahoo Finance describes QuickChek's broader footprint as 150 stores in New York and New Jersey. C-Store Dive also reported that QuickChek, which Murphy USA purchased in 2021, has opened just 13 new stores since that acquisition and that its total store count has actually declined since then, even as the company reported five stores under construction at the end of 2025.
Stewart's and Speedway Already Hold the Territory
Whatever the final store count turns out to be, QuickChek is moving into territory already well covered by established players. C-Store Dive reported that the chain's planned Albany-area stores will compete with national chain Speedway, owned by 7-Eleven, as well as regional powerhouse Stewart's Shops. Stewart's, based in Ballston Spa, has more than 400 locations stretching from the Syracuse area to New Hampshire, according to Yahoo Finance's report on QuickChek's expansion.
There's also disagreement over just how close QuickChek's presence has been to the region before now. NEWS10 previously described Saugerties as the chain's closest location to the Capital Region, while C-Store Dive identified Newburgh as QuickChek's current northernmost New York store. Either way, the Colonie opening represents new ground for a chain that has spent years concentrated farther south and east. For now, the Wolf Road store is open and running, with the formal ribbon-cutting still ahead on November 12.
