Richmond is waking up Wednesday, November 4, to fog and mist around 50 degrees, but the murky start should give way to mostly sunny skies and a high near 77. Visibility may be reduced during the morning commute before the fog lifts, making for a brief gray opening to an otherwise unusually warm day.
Fog Clears For A Warm Wednesday
Patchy fog is expected to thin by about 9 a.m., followed by mostly sunny skies through much of the afternoon. South winds will stay light at 0 to 9 mph, while the broader period is expected to be above average, according to the National Weather Service in Wakefield.
Clouds will build tonight as a cold front approaches, with mostly cloudy skies and a mild low near 62. Rain chances remain minimal Wednesday night, although the warmer, more humid air will be noticeable after several dry days.
Rain Risk Rises Thursday Night
Thursday stays warm but turns mostly cloudy, with a high near 78 and only a slight chance of showers after 1 p.m. The bigger change arrives Thursday night, when the rain chance rises to 70% and a line of rainfall may develop; a few thunderstorms are possible.
Friday is shaping up as the wettest day, with showers, a slight chance of embedded thunderstorms, a 90% chance of rain and a high near 72. The National Weather Service says rainfall placement and amounts remain uncertain.
The stronger signal for a wet Thursday night and Friday is a notable update from Hoodline's earlier Richmond forecast, which had already pointed to a late-week shift. Drivers should allow extra time for ponding, reduced visibility and possible thunderstorm delays as the front moves through.
Cooler And Drier Weekend Ahead
Rain should taper off Friday night, setting up drier conditions Saturday with highs in the mid to upper 60s and a low around 40. Sunday looks sunny and cooler near 63, followed by Monday and Tuesday, which are forecast to bring highs from the upper 60s into the 70s.
For now, Wednesday afternoon is the best window for outdoor plans, while Friday is the day to keep flexible. No watches, warnings or advisories are listed for the Richmond area in the current forecast.
