Round Rock marked the opening of its newest firehouse on Thursday, cutting the ribbon on Fire Station No. 10, a $9.1 million facility built to serve the city's fast-growing northeastern side. The station sits at 4380 E. Old Settlers Blvd. and features four apparatus bays designed to house the equipment needed to cover the area.
A Bond-Funded Project Years in the Making
The ceremony, held Nov. 5, capped a project that Community Impact identifies as the second of three fire stations funded by a 2023 bond package. That bond, approved by voters, was valued at $274 million, and city officials say the Fire Station No. 10 project cost approximately $9.1 million. The facility uses the city's standardized fire station design, an approach intended to help control costs as Round Rock builds out its public-safety footprint.
Construction on the station had been underway for more than a year before Thursday's unveiling. Back in June 2025, the project was already described as a $9.1 million facility expected to wrap up sometime in 2026, according to CBS Austin, which also reported that the Round Rock City Council selected Braun and Butler Construction as the contractor back in February of that year. That same report characterized the design as a standardized model created to reduce architectural costs, and said the station would serve the city's northeastern area.
Voters Approved Three Stations in 2023
CBS Austin's reporting traces the funding back further, noting that voters approved three new fire stations in the May 2023 bond election, which allocated $44 million specifically for public safety projects. The first of those three stations, Fire Station No. 1, opened in November 2024 at 1730 E. Old Settlers Blvd., according to the Austin American-Statesman, which described it as the first major project stemming from that bond referendum. City officials at the time said the station was expected to bring faster response times across Round Rock, especially in its growing eastern portion.
Fire Chief Shane Glaiser has tied the broader station buildout directly to response times in the city's expanding neighborhoods. Speaking about Fire Station No. 1, the first station opened under the bond, Glaiser said he hopes it will help shorten response times to that part of Round Rock, according to FOX 7 Austin. Glaiser also said that as calls to that station grow, the department will likely double the team stationed there, per the same outlet's reporting.
Two More Stations Still to Come
FOX 7 Austin's coverage indicates the fire department's buildout is not finished. The outlet reported that two more stations were in the pipeline, with the next one planned farther east on Old Settlers Boulevard, while the location of a second future station had not yet been determined at the time of that reporting.
One of those future projects has since taken more concrete shape. Round Rock approved the purchase of 2.45 acres from Ascension Seton for $489,078 to build Fire Station 11, according to Fire Apparatus Magazine. That future station is planned near the intersection of University Boulevard and Seton Parkway, next to Ascension Seton Williamson, and is expected to include a satellite office for the Round Rock Police Department. As of that report, the City Council had not yet voted on a construction contract for Fire Station 11, though completion was expected by the end of 2027, and the trade publication noted the new station is planned to reuse the same four-bay design built for Fire Station No. 10 as a cost-saving standard model.
