A Sacramento County jury has convicted a man already on parole for a prior manslaughter conviction of pistol-whipping another man across the face during a confrontation at a storage facility, leaving the victim with a bleeding gash. Frederick Stewart now faces a maximum sentence of 60 years to life in prison when he returns to court next month.
According to the Sacramento County District Attorney's Office, the jury convicted Stewart on October 27 of assault with a deadly weapon and being a felon in possession of a firearm, and also found true allegations that he used a firearm during the attack. The case, numbered 25FE013386, was prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Madison Cloke of the office's Felony Trial Teams.
Prosecutors say the confrontation unfolded on June 29, 2025, at a storage facility in Sacramento County, where Stewart and the victim exchanged words as they passed each other, as reported by FOX40. The victim had entered the facility on his bike, while Stewart initially drove his vehicle out through the facility gate, per the station's report.
Driver Turned Back and Confronted Victim With a Gun
Rather than leaving, Stewart turned his vehicle around and drove back into the facility, heading toward the victim, officials say. He then exited the vehicle with a gun in his hand, yelling and waving the weapon at the victim, according to the district attorney's office. When the victim was backed into a corner against a storage unit, Stewart struck him once across the face with the gun.
The blow left the victim with a bleeding gash on his mouth, the DA's office says. An employee at the storage facility called 911 as Stewart fled the scene in his vehicle. Law enforcement located Stewart two weeks later, on July 13, 2025.
Defendant Was on Parole From Manslaughter Sentence
At the time of the attack, Stewart was on parole from an 18-year prison sentence stemming from a voluntary manslaughter conviction involving a firearm, the district attorney's office says. That earlier case now looms over his sentencing: prosecutors say allegations that Stewart has two prior strike convictions — for voluntary manslaughter with a firearm and second-degree robbery with a firearm — will be determined at the sentencing hearing rather than by the jury that just convicted him.
Sentencing is scheduled for December 11 at 1:30 p.m. in Department 16A before Judge Steve White, per the district attorney's office. With the firearm-use findings and the pending strike allegations, Stewart faces a maximum sentence of 60 years to life in prison.
