Registration is still open for the second annual SCA Tennis Tournament, set for Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 14-15, at Beachview Tennis Club, 1101 Par View Drive on Sanibel. Organizers are accepting entries through Nov. 11, with proceeds benefiting the Sanibel Community Association and its Community House programming.
The tournament's listed registration fee is $100 per person, while the fee for both days is listed at $150 per person, according to the Sanibel-Captiva Islander. SCA Executive Director Emily Ankerson called the event a long-standing island tradition, even though this marks only the second year the Sanibel Community Association has hosted it. She described the tournament as fun, active, relaxed and laid back, adding that it offers players a chance to be outdoors while supporting a cause.
Building On a Strong First Year
The inaugural tournament drew more than 40 players, a turnout organizers are hoping to match or exceed this time around. That first event was staged Dec. 6-7, 2025, also at Beachview Tennis Club, according to sanibelcommunityhouse.net, which listed the same $100 one-day and $150 combined-day rates for that debut event. The 2025 tournament featured men's doubles, women's doubles and mixed doubles across the 3.0, 3.5 and 4.0 skill levels, with men's and women's doubles played on the first day and mixed doubles on the second, per a recap from the same organization.
Winners and runners-up from the first tournament took home commemorative trophies, and this year's winners will again receive trophies. That earlier event was presented jointly by the Community House and the Sanibel Community Association, with proceeds supporting programs and activities at the Community House, the organization noted in its recap.
New This Year: A Mimosa and Bloody Mary Bar
Organizers are adding a mimosa and Bloody Mary bar to this year's tournament, a new touch alongside the usual hospitality. Participants and spectators will receive light breakfast items and lunch each day, courtesy of island restaurants and establishments that donated food, including Doc Ford's, the Lazy Flamingo, Sanibel Deli and Jerry's Foods. Participants will also receive a tournament t-shirt, sponsored by Sanibel Captiva Community Bank.
Ankerson plans to play doubles herself, teaming with Ivy Ankerson, and will play mixed doubles with her husband. She said the fundraising generated by the tournament supports the Sanibel Community Association's continued operations, noting the nonprofit relies on support from members and donors to maintain its programs and operate its facility. The tennis tournament joins the gala and the Shell Festival as one of the organization's major annual fundraisers.
How to Register or Sponsor
Beachview Tennis Club owner and tournament organizer Toni Halski is handling event logistics, and interested participants are asked to call her at (239) 472-9009. The tournament is also accepting sponsorships, with inquiries directed to the Community House at (239) 472-2155 or [email protected].
Beachview Tennis Club has hosted other island tournaments over the years, including the Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation's 29th annual tennis tournament, which listed entry fees of $75 per day or $125 for both days of play, according to sccf.org. That event similarly offered men's, women's and mixed doubles in the 3.0, 3.5 and 4.0 categories, reflecting the format now familiar to island tennis players heading into the SCA's second annual gathering on the courts.
