A new restaurant blending a Mexican steakhouse with a Japanese sushi counter is aiming to open in downtown Sebring in January 2027. Brasa Negra Cuisine will take over 139 N Ridgewood Dr., Suite 103, near Sebring Circle Park, bringing charcoal-grilled meats, handmade tortillas, and an omakase bar to the heart of the city's dining strip.
A Steakhouse, a Sushi Counter, and a Still-Developing Menu
According to WhatNow, a description provided to Google Maps says the concept combines the steakhouse experience with authentic Mexican cuisine, including charcoal-grilled meats cooked in a Josper oven alongside an open kitchen and handmade corn tortillas. The same description promises traditional sauces and Mexican tamales prepared by the restaurant's Mexican chef and culinary team. Tucked into that steakhouse concept is what the Google Maps listing calls an exclusive Japanese sushi counter featuring omakase, described as a personalized tasting experience in which the chef prepares fresh cuts and sushi based on the fish of the day in front of guests, with traditional tuna butchering offered on select occasions.
A representative for Brasa Negra confirmed the opening to WhatNow but declined to share further menu details, saying it's still under development. A separate report from Business Debut fills in more of the picture, noting the restaurant is targeting a mid-January opening at the same North Ridgewood Drive address. Co-owner Benito Martinez told the outlet the plan is for a sit-down Mexican brunch service during the day, transitioning into a full-service Mexican steakhouse and bar in the evenings.
Brunch Chilaquiles by Day, Steakhouse and Sushi by Night
Per that same account, chilaquiles with house-made green sauce, eggs, and steak will anchor the brunch offerings, along with breakfast burritos. The dinner program will also incorporate a Japanese influence through a sushi menu, layering the omakase concept onto the steakhouse format described in the Google Maps listing. The dining room is expected to seat about 80 guests, with room for about 70 more on an outdoor patio, giving Brasa Negra a sizable footprint for a first-time restaurant venture.
Brunch service is planned from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., with the restaurant intending to open seven days a week at launch, the report notes. Evening hours have not been finalized, though the goal is to stay open until 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and 10 p.m. on weekdays. Brasa Negra marks the first restaurant for brothers Benito and Carlos Martinez, according to the outlet.
Joining a Growing Downtown Dining Scene
Brasa Negra's address places it near Sebring Circle Park, joining what WhatNow describes as a restaurant community that includes Mon Cirque Wine Bar, Sophie's Downtown, and Dee's Place. The new spot is also listed as a tenant at Sadie's Place, a downtown retail and dining plaza whose developer, Ken LeBlanc, was targeting a first-quarter 2027 opening, according to Highlands 104.3. The plaza on North Ridgewood Drive is slated to feature several restaurants and shops, suggesting Brasa Negra's debut could coincide with a broader wave of new openings downtown.
Early reaction online has leaned enthusiastic. One Google reviewer, translated from Spanish, wrote that the idea of combining cuts of meat with Mexican flavors sounds amazing, while other reviewers said they couldn't wait for the opening to try the experience. With the menu still being finalized and an exact opening date not yet confirmed, Sebring diners will have to wait for Brasa Negra to settle into its new Ridgewood Drive home before finding out exactly what lands on the plate.
