A glamping retreat tucked into the woods near South Haven just got a lot cozier for winter. Off Map, a 76-acre property about 10 minutes from downtown, has opened five newly built cabins and a geodesic-dome lodge for cold-weather bookings, marking the resort's shift into a four-season destination.
The cabins were finished in August and still carry that fresh pine and cedar smell, according to MLive.com, which reports the deluxe units come in one- and two-bedroom layouts with large windows, high ceilings and skylights. One-bedroom cabins sleep four guests starting at $360 a night, while two-bedroom cabins — which include a room with two twin beds — sleep five starting at $490 a night, per the outlet.
Every cabin comes equipped with a pull-out sofa bed, a kitchenette, temperature control, and both indoor and outdoor showers, the report notes. The five structures each carry a Michigan-inspired name — Timber, Harvest, Quarry, Dune and Drift — according to the Herald Palladium, which adds that three are one-bedroom and two are two-bedroom.
A Dome Lodge Built for Private Gatherings
Beyond the cabins, Off Map has opened a geodesic-dome lodge for winter group reservations. The lodge is made up of two domes connected by a center wing, which houses a large dining area and kitchen, the same MLive report states. Inside, guests will find a king-bed suite, two twin-bed rooms, and a lofted game room, with a sunroom and back deck adding outdoor space.
Booking the lodge is reserved for private events rather than individual stays, per the outlet's reporting. The addition rounds out a property that already includes 15 safari tents, five deluxe tents, wooded trails, a communal barn, a camp store and event spaces spread across the resort's 76 acres of forest and grassland in Van Buren County.
From Summer Capacity to Winter Trails
During warmer months, Off Map can host up to 75 overnight guests, the station's report notes. This past summer the resort also built a new garden and swing space, with raised garden boxes that flourished with fresh herbs guests could pick themselves, according to the same account.
Now the focus turns to snow. Off Map plans to groom two miles of its trails for snowshoeing this winter, per the article. The surrounding area offers additional cold-weather options, with the Kal-Haven Trail and Van Buren Trail together providing nearly 50 miles of snowmobiling terrain across the county, the report notes.
Owners With Hospitality Roots
Off Map has been owned by Ronny and Lisa Sage along with Ryan and Sara Wagner since they purchased the property in 2023, the outlet reports. Sara and Ryan Wagner studied at Michigan State University's School of Hospitality Business and bring experience from Google, the Drake Hotel and Ralph Lauren Hospitality, according to the same report.
Ronny Sage described the retreat's appeal in simple terms, telling MLive, “With less Wi-Fi, there's more connection.” The resort markets itself around that trade-off — an outdoor experience without the discomforts of traditional camping, per the outlet's reporting.
Off Map sits roughly two hours from Chicago and under three hours from Detroit, placing it within reach of weekend travelers from both metro areas, the report states. The property is also close to golf courses, winery tours, apple orchards and a waterfront sports complex, all within about 10 minutes, according to the same account. A third-party listing from TheDyrt separately describes Off Map's existing Safari King Tents as equipped with wood-burning stoves, a detail that could suit shoulder-season stays even as the new cabins and lodge take over for winter.
