A garage fire injured one person at a southwest Las Vegas home Thursday morning, prompting a response from 30 firefighters and a search of the residence. Crews found flames concentrated in the garage and worked to keep them from spreading into the rest of the house.
The fire was reported just after 8:45 a.m. at a home in the 9000 block of Hawaiian Summer Street, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, citing a Clark County Fire Department release. News 3 Las Vegas reported the call came in around 8:47 a.m. near Eastern Avenue and Silverado Ranch Boulevard.
Firefighters Search the Home as Flames Spread Through the Garage
As firefighters worked on the garage, search teams checked the residence for anyone inside, according to FOX5 Vegas. They found a cat and brought it outside safely. Crews brought the fire under control before it spread farther into the house, the station reported.
FOX5 reported that one person was evaluated at the scene for minor injuries and was not taken to a hospital.
Utility Crews and Red Cross Assisted at the Scene
NV Energy, Southwest Gas and the American Red Cross assisted at the scene, FOX5 reported. The Clark County Fire Department also provided photographs of the response.
What Fire Records Show
Clark County Fire Department’s 2024 summary recorded 5,496 fire incidents department-wide. That broad annual total does not establish how many incidents were residential structure fires or how many began in garages.
The incident echoes a similar garage fire Clark County firefighters handled near Warm Springs and Fort Apache, where no civilian or firefighter injuries were reported but damage was estimated between $25,000 and $50,000, according to News 3's earlier coverage. In that case, as with Thursday's fire, the cause was listed as under investigation.
