Savannah shoppers are about to get their first taste of Sprouts Farmers Market, with the grocery chain planning a new store at Crossroads Shopping Center on the city's east side. The project calls for roughly 23,000 square feet of new grocery space built where the Savannah Children's Theatre and a fitness club once stood, with an opening targeted for 2027.

News of the lease first broke in the spring, when WTOC reported that Sprouts had signed on for Crossroads Shopping Center, calling it the city's first-ever location for the chain. That report also put the expected opening timeline at 2027, a detail echoed across multiple real estate trade outlets covering the deal.

More recently, a Pier Commercial Real Estate Facebook post from the week before Halloween — cited by WhatNow — placed the new grocery space at about 23,000 square feet and confirmed Doyle Construction is now working on site at Crossroads. That same post described the store as rising at the intersection of Victory Drive and Skidaway Road. Other coverage of the project has instead pointed to Truman Parkway as the center's second cross street, a discrepancy that has appeared in differing accounts of the shopping center's location.

A Theater and Gym Space Gets a Grocery Makeover

The redevelopment involves tearing down the shopping center's east-end section, which previously housed the Savannah Children's Theatre and a fitness club, according to Savannah Agenda. WTOC reported in May 2026 that demolition was expected to begin that summer. WTOC also reported plans to reposition nearly 28,000 square feet, while Savannah Agenda described a proposed 23,293-square-foot building for the grocery anchor.

Crossroads Shopping Center is a 92,000-square-foot neighborhood retail center, citybiz.co reports, and the property sits at 2100 and 2142 E. Victory Drive, according to Commercial Search's account of the deal. The center is currently home to Planet Fitness, Starbucks, T-Mobile, UPS and other tenants per the Shelby Report. The new Sprouts location is expected to join the Planet Fitness already operating at the center, per WhatNow's reporting on the Pier Commercial Real Estate post.

The site has a grocery history of its own. A Piggly Wiggly operated at the shopping center, in the spot now occupied by Planet Fitness, before closing in 2013, according to Savannah Agenda. Nearby businesses cited in the Pier Commercial Real Estate post include a breakfast spot, Sumo Hibachi Grill & Sushi, and Shred Nations.

Why Sprouts Is Betting on Savannah's East Side

The Ardent Companies, which is overseeing the redevelopment, said growing demand for grocery-anchored retail made the Crossroads project an attractive investment, per WTOC's reporting. Citybiz.co notes that more than 126,994 consumers live within five miles of the shopping center, a trade-area figure the firm cited in announcing the lease. Savannah's broader retail vacancy rate was reported at 4.4 percent by the Shelby Report, a tight market that has made grocery deals like this one more competitive to land.

More than half of new grocery store openings in 2025, 54 percent, occurred in the Southeast, based on JLL data cited by Ardent in the Shelby Report's coverage.

What Shoppers Can Expect Inside

Sprouts describes its store experience as an open layout with fresh produce at the heart of the store, according to citybiz.co, alongside what the company calls delicious discoveries for every dietary lifestyle. WhatNow's reporting adds that the chain offers a broad selection centered on fresh produce along with better-for-you products including organic, plant-based and gluten-free options, and the company says it continues to bring wholesome, innovative products made with lifestyle-friendly ingredients. USA Today reports that Sprouts focuses on fresh, natural and organic foods along with ready-to-eat options, part of a broader national push by the chain.

Sprouts operates more than 480 stores in 25 states. The chain opened 37 new locations in 2025, per USA Today, which also reported Sprouts was on track to open 24 more stores between September and the end of 2026.

For Savannah, the Crossroads project will bring Sprouts' first-ever store in the city. With Doyle Construction now active on site, according to WhatNow's account of the Pier Commercial Real Estate update, the transformation of the shopping center's east end is underway as the 2027 opening target approaches.
