Stiles Switch BBQ plans to renovate a former restaurant at 18920 Interstate 35 in Kyle, with the project estimated to cost $500,000. The site was formerly occupied by Z’Tejas, which closed its last restaurant in 2025, MySA reported.
The project filing, reported by the Austin American-Statesman, describes work on about 5,976 square feet, including a bar, dining room, kitchen and barbecue pit. It lists construction beginning Nov. 15 and completion on Feb. 15, 2027. MySA noted that construction timelines in state filings can change. The company has not confirmed a public opening date.
The site sits within a wider I-35 corridor
The address places the proposed restaurant along I-35, but regional transportation plans do not establish what access will be like at this particular property. TxDOT says its Mobility35 program covers 79 miles of I-35 in Williamson, Travis and Hays counties; the program description does not specify an effect on access to the Kyle site. TxDOT’s overview provides corridor context, not a project-specific forecast.
Kyle’s adopted plan is broader than this project
The City of Kyle’s timeline records Jan. 16, 2024, as the date the City Council held its third public hearing and adopted the Kyle 2030 Comprehensive Master Plan update. The city’s timeline does not identify the Stiles Switch address as part of a specific plan proposal, so the adoption alone does not establish a planning decision about this renovation. The city’s plan page documents the adoption date.
For now, the filing describes a proposed restaurant conversion and a construction timetable, not a confirmed opening. Both the schedule and the eventual start of operations remain subject to change.
