Houston is starting Tuesday warm and humid, but another round of MVFR to LIFR conditions is expected overnight into Tuesday morning, especially near and south of I-10. The calm will not last. Showers and thunderstorms are expected to move through the area from late morning into the afternoon as a cold front sweeps across Southeast Texas.

Temperatures should climb into the low 80s before falling through the afternoon, with an 80% chance of rain and possible rainfall totals between a tenth and a quarter of an inch. Light to moderate southerly to southeasterly winds will shift northwest behind the front, and an isolated stronger storm could produce wind gusts of 25 to 45 mph.

Storms Arrive Before The Evening Commute

The Houston metro area is expected to see the main line of showers and storms roughly from early to midafternoon Tuesday, with rain chances easing after sunset. The National Weather Service says the overall severe-weather threat is limited, but brief heavy rain, lightning and gusty winds remain possible in stronger cells.

No watches, warnings or advisories are listed for Houston in the current forecast. Drivers should still allow extra time if storms move through during the afternoon commute, particularly where visibility drops or water briefly collects on roadways.

Calmer Wednesday, More Showers Thursday

Behind Tuesday’s front, Wednesday looks much calmer, with highs in the upper 70s to near 80 and a Wednesday night low in Houston in the 50s. The air should feel noticeably drier and more autumn-like than it does Tuesday morning.

Rain chances return Thursday as a warm front moves back late Wednesday night and Thursday, with possible scattered showers as the day progresses. Another cold front is expected Thursday night, with cooler weekend temperatures, highs near 70 and overnight lows dipping into the 50s.
