Richmond is waking to light rain and a muggy 68 degrees Friday, with showers and thunderstorms set to dominate the day before a sharp turn to sunnier, cooler weather arrives this weekend. The temperature could reach near 70 early, then slide into the low 60s by afternoon.
Heavy Rain And Storms Through Friday
Rain is expected through the morning and afternoon, with the chance of precipitation at 100% for the day. The National Weather Service in Wakefield gives a QPF range of 0.5 to 1.0 inches from the Piedmont through the Richmond metro, with locally heavier bursts, occasional lightning, and a chance of stronger wind gusts in embedded storms.
Heavier bands may briefly reduce visibility and create ponding on roads, especially in urban and low-lying spots. Moderate rain could linger into the evening. Behind the front, north to northeast winds are expected, with overnight lows in the mid-to-upper 40s in western and northern areas.
Sunshine Returns Saturday
The weather flips quickly Saturday, bringing sunny skies, a high near 61, and a northwest wind around 9 mph. Saturday night should be mostly clear with a low near 41, followed by a sunny Sunday topping out around 64.
Mild, Dry Stretch Takes Over
Dry weather is expected to hold through early next week, with sunny highs near 66 Monday and 69 Tuesday. Veterans Day should be mostly sunny, with a high in the mid-60s, while Thursday brings a slight chance of showers.
