A Neighborhood With a Recent History of Youth Violence
WJLA has also reported on earlier disturbances in Navy Yard involving large youth gatherings. On Halloween night in 2025, several hundred youths gathered near the Navy Yard Metro station; police did not disperse the crowd until roughly 11 p.m., and MPD arrested five teenagers, the station reported. Mayor Muriel Bowser then enacted a limited curfew, in effect nightly from 11 p.m. on November 1 through midnight on November 5.
WJLA also reported that a minor was arrested after a separate shooting in which police said a boy fired at another group of teens in the 100 block of M Street SE around 9:26 p.m. No injuries were reported, and a firearm recovered at the scene had reportedly been stolen from another jurisdiction. It remains unclear whether that incident or other reported gatherings in the neighborhood are connected to Saturday's shooting.
Another Navy Yard Shooting in MPD Records
MPD reported that a 15-year-old boy was shot in the 1100 block of Half Street SE on July 4, 2025, and was found conscious and breathing, according to the Metropolitan Police Department. That incident occurred at a different location and date; police have not said the cases are connected.
