Vinsonhaler Park's Recent History With Reports of Gunfire
The death is not the first time the area around Vinsonhaler Park has drawn a police response over reports of gunfire. In 2025, officers responded to the area near the park and Orland High School after reports of possible gunshots, a call that prompted a brief shelter-in-place at both Orland High School and North Valley High School, according to actionnewsnow.com.
A 2008 report from chicoer.com on the killing of 18-year-old Arcadio Guillen in Orland noted that investigators were looking into whether the case was gang-related. Separately, in a shooting reported this week in the broader Orland area, deputies identified the victim as 40-year-old Rafael Vargas Chavez of Corning, saying he was shot at a residence on County Road 20 after an altercation, according to actionnewsnow.com.
