A 37-year-old father was shot and killed inside his home in the 7700 block of Westbank Avenue early Friday morning, and investigators say his own 17-year-old son is accused of pulling the trigger. The boy fled the house on foot after the shooting, leaving his mother and two other children in the home unharmed.
Harris County Precinct 1 deputies were the first to respond to the residence near West Road and Fairbanks N. Houston Road, according to a statement posted by Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez on X.
EMS pronounced the man dead at the scene. Homicide detectives and crime scene investigators took over the follow-up investigation, the sheriff’s office said.

The report said the father and teenager had not been publicly identified and officials had not decided whether to file charges against the teen.
How Texas Juvenile Jurisdiction Works
A 17-year-old’s age alone does not establish which system, if any, would handle this case. Texas Juvenile Justice Department guidance says people age 17 or older fall under juvenile-system jurisdiction only for offenses allegedly committed at age 16 or younger, or for a juvenile-court-order violation while still under supervision. The guidance does not specify what must happen to transfer a juvenile case to adult court.
Investigation Continues
The sheriff’s office said the case remains under active investigation. Detectives are working to determine what happened inside the home before the shooting.
