A dark red Tesla sedan ended up jammed between two steel bollards in the parking lot of the Paramus Tesla dealership on Wednesday, trapping both the driver and a passenger inside until rescue crews could cut them free. The crash happened at the dealership located at 530 Route 17 North, leaving the car heavily damaged and eventually hauled away by a tow truck.
According to Daily Voice, the driver had been trying to pull into a parking space just before the vehicle became wedged between the posts. Both occupants were stuck in the front seats, and Paramus firefighters along with police Emergency Services Unit officers had to use hydraulic rescue tools to extricate them from the mangled car.
Per TAPinto, the crash occurred around 2 p.m. Wednesday along northbound Route 17, and the two occupants were taken to Hackensack University Medical Center with injuries that were not further specified. The outlet's report credited photographer and reporter Boyd A. Loving with documenting the scene as it unfolded.
Multiple Agencies Responded to the Scene
The response drew in more than just local crews. Paramus police, firefighters, and EMS were joined by Holy Name Medical Center EMS and a paramedic team from The Valley Hospital, the same account notes. No other injuries were reported beyond the two people pulled from the Tesla, and the conditions of those occupants were not immediately available at the time of the report.
Once freed, the Tesla itself was left too damaged to drive and was removed from the scene by a tow truck. The dealership parking lot where the crash happened sits along Route 17, and the Tesla became wedged between steel bollards there.
Not the First Mishap at This Dealership
Not the First Mishap at This Dealership This is not the first time the Paramus Tesla lot has made headlines for a chaotic crash. In February, a box truck and a Jeep Cherokee collided on northbound Route 17 around 6:45 a.m., sending both vehicles careening into the dealership's parking lot and damaging at least seven vehicles, the same outlet reported at the time. It was not immediately clear if anyone was injured in that earlier incident, and the Paramus Police Department opened an investigation into the cause.
No similar investigation details have been released for Wednesday's bollard crash, and it remains unclear what led the driver to lose control while attempting to park. For now, the extent of the two occupants' injuries and their current conditions have not been made public.
