The Woodlands High School went into lockdown on Wednesday afternoon after campus officials said someone phoned in a threat against the school. Conroe ISD asked families to stay away from the Research Forest Drive campus while administrators and district police worked to assess the situation.
In a statement, the district said the school “is currently in a lockdown as a safety precaution due to a campus threat that was made by phone,” according to Woodlands Online. The district also urged parents directly, saying “please do not come to the campus at this time” so that staff and officers could focus on securing the building. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office confirmed it had sent deputies to the scene, saying “deputies are on scene securing the school at this time,” per Hello Woodlands.
The sheriff’s office added that, at the time of its statement, “there are no known injuries reported.” FOX 26 Houston reported that the school received a potential threat by phone earlier that afternoon and that campus administration put the building on lockdown out of an abundance of caution, with Montgomery County authorities checking the building and investigating the threat.
Search for Possible Active Shooter Reported
One local outlet reported a more alarming detail in the moments after the lockdown began. At 12:45 p.m., according to the same report, law enforcement was searching for a possible active shooter on the campus of The Woodlands High School on Research Forest Drive. That report also noted that no fired shots had been confirmed at that point, the Montgomery County Police Reporter notes in its breaking coverage of the incident.
FOX 26 Houston, citing the sheriff’s office and student reports, said parents lined up outside the campus to pick up their students as the lockdown unfolded. The station also reported, citing student accounts, that a student was seen running out of a classroom and that a student reportedly made a threat on social media before being arrested — details the station attributed to reports rather than to official confirmation.
Lone Star College Closure Raises Unanswered Questions
A separate alert complicated the picture Wednesday afternoon. At 1:36 p.m., Lone Star College police issued an emergency closure for administrative offices in The Woodlands, according to a report from Telemundo Houston. The outlet stated plainly that authorities had not confirmed any connection between the two closures, leaving the relationship between the college alert and the high school lockdown unresolved.
No later outcome of the campus search, the lockdown, or the broader investigation had been established as of the available reporting. It is also not confirmed whether anyone was arrested in connection with Wednesday’s threat, nor has it been verified how or where the threat originated beyond the phone call described by Conroe ISD.
Past Threat at Same Campus
The Woodlands High School has faced threat-related disruptions before. A 2022 report from yourconroenews.com described a student at the school facing disciplinary action after authorities linked that student to a bomb threat that had been circulating on social media. That incident is separate from Wednesday’s lockdown and offers no information about what prompted the current threat or response.
