Tracy police are asking the community for fresh information on the 2023 homicide of Khyrei Currie-Ingram, a shooting that left the victim dead at McDonald Park and that investigators say remains unresolved even after two people were arrested the following year. Officers want to hear from anyone who saw suspicious activity, had contact with the victim, or has any information about the shooting.
According to CBS Sacramento, officials said Currie-Ingram was shot and killed at McDonald Park on April 21, 2023. Tracy Press, however, has reported that Khyrei Currie, 23, was killed in the park two days later, on April 23, 2023, and KCRA has referred to the victim by yet another spelling, Khyrie Currie. The discrepancies in both the date and the exact name have not been reconciled in available reporting.
KCRA reported at the time that Currie was found in the 100 block of East First Street and that first responders transported him to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries. In that same report, police described the shooting as appearing to be an isolated incident and said they had not yet released any suspect information, according to KCRA.
Two Arrests Made in 2024, but Questions Linger
The case moved forward roughly a year later when Tracy police identified and arrested two suspects. Per CBS Sacramento's reporting, 24-year-old Juan Santos and 18-year-old Adrian Darbison were both arrested in 2024 in connection with the shooting.
Tracy Press offered additional detail on those arrests, reporting that police identified the suspects as Juan Francisco Santos, 24, of Tracy, and a Manteca teen who was a juvenile at the time of the shooting, both held on suspicion of murder and conspiracy. The outlet's account did not name the juvenile suspect, a discrepancy from the seed report's identification of Darbison. As part of that operation, investigators served search warrants and arrest warrants at homes on the 2900 block of North MacArthur Drive and the 1000 block of West Ninth Street in Tracy, along with addresses on the 1500 block of Sephos Street in Manteca and the 1900 block of Darrah Street in Ceres, the Tracy Press report states.
Police Still Waiting on Case Status From Investigators
Despite those 2024 arrests, a police department spokesperson said the department was waiting for investigators to provide the status of the cases against Santos and Darbison, according to CBS Sacramento's reporting. That open question is part of why Tracy police are now circling back to the public for help, rather than treating the case as closed.
Tracy police are asking anyone who saw suspicious activity, had contact with Currie-Ingram, or has any information about the shooting to come forward. Tracy Press separately reported in its 2024 coverage that the case remained under investigation and encouraged anyone with information to contact the Tracy Police Department's General Investigations Unit at (209) 831-6538.
