Tsehay Ethiopian Restaurant plans to pause service by the end of the year, but owner Selamawit Gossa has not set a reopening date. PoPville first reported the plan, based on an announcement from Gossa. The restaurant is at 2429 18th St. NW in Adams Morgan, according to The Infatuation.

Gossa established Tsehay in 2019 in tribute to her late mother’s cafe in Addis Ababa, according to Washingtonian. After leaving its original Park View location in spring 2022, the restaurant reopened in a larger Adams Morgan space by early June 2023, the magazine reported.

In the announcement reported by PoPville, Gossa attributed the decision to a slowdown in business and rising costs. She said Tsehay had sought rent relief from its landlord but the two sides did not reach an agreement.

Gossa said she intends to keep looking for a way to bring the restaurant back and continue the legacy associated with her mother. Her announcement did not specify when, or under what circumstances, Tsehay might reopen.
