University of Kentucky Health Care has opened a new clinic in Richmond, bringing primary care, imaging and sports medicine services closer to home for Richmond-area patients. The clinic sits at 2091 Lantern Ridge Drive and folds in a full-service retail pharmacy alongside its medical offerings.

As WKYT reports, the new Richmond clinic spans 13,000 square feet and offers primary care for all ages, physical therapy, sports medicine and imaging. According to UK HealthCare's own description of the location, patients have access to X-ray, CT and mammography services on-site, while MRI is listed as opening soon. The clinic also includes an early-morning walk-in clinic staffed by sports medicine specialists for patients dealing with injuries, per UK HealthCare.

A Pharmacy Open to the Whole Community

The Richmond location is described by UK HealthCare as open to everyone, not just its own patients, offering low prescription prices and vaccinations in addition to its full-service pharmacy counter. UK Retail Pharmacy's own page confirms the Richmond site is now open, noting it sits across from Cinemark in Richmond Centre and calling it the newest full-service UK Retail Pharmacy location. That pharmacy access, paired with the broader clinic, is part of what UK HealthCare officials said marks an important step toward bringing accessible health care to more people in central Kentucky, according to WKYT.

Patty Hughes, UK HealthCare's chief nursing officer for ambulatory care, said the Richmond clinic is an ideal starting location to provide care and support for patients who later move toward Fayette County, Lexington or Chandler Medical Center, per the same report. UK HealthCare has framed the Richmond site around a similar goal stated on its own clinic page: making care more accessible without requiring patients to travel to Lexington for services they can now get closer to home.

Part of a Broader Expansion Push

Richmond is not an isolated project for UK HealthCare. The health system said it opened three new primary care clinics in 2024 while strengthening its existing locations, according to a report from UKNow. One of those, UK HealthCare – Hamburg, opened at 2700 Old Rosebud Road in Lexington and offers primary care for all ages, including physicals, chronic disease care and medication management, the same article noted.

UK HealthCare has continued that pattern into central Kentucky more broadly. A primary care clinic in Frankfort opened at 279 King's Daughters Drive to serve adults 18 and older, including those with acute illnesses and chronic conditions, according to the Lane Report. That clinic opened in March, is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and was designed to serve UK employees and neighbors living in the region, the outlet reported. Medical director Lucas Shelton said at the time that the goal was increasing access to primary care in Kentucky, a rationale that echoes the stated purpose behind the Richmond expansion.
