A 15-year-old boy shot outside a Vacaville home on Halloween night is now in stable condition and expected to survive, according to a Sunday morning update from police, who said the person or people responsible for the shooting remain at large. Officers had responded just after 10:20 p.m. Saturday to a report of gunfire near Canterbury Circle and Hampton Street, where they found the teen lying in the roadway with an apparent gunshot wound.
According to the Vacaville Police Department, officers who arrived at the scene provided medical aid until medical personnel arrived. The teen was then transported to a hospital. Saturday night's initial report from KRON4 described the victim as being in critical condition at the time, but Sunday morning's police update said the 15-year-old was stable and expected to survive.
Investigators said preliminary information suggests the shooting was an isolated incident stemming from an argument during a gathering at a nearby residence, per the police department's account. No arrests have been announced, and the suspect or suspects remained at large as of Saturday night, the station reported.

A County With a Troubled History of Gun Violence
The Halloween night shooting adds to a difficult regional backdrop. Solano County recorded an annual gun-homicide rate of six deaths per 100,000 residents between 2016 and 2021, the highest rate among Bay Area counties and the fifth-highest statewide, according to a Times Herald Online analysis. Most of those homicides were concentrated elsewhere in the county — 71 of Solano's 123 gun homicides during that five-year span occurred within Vallejo city limits, the outlet reported, and Vallejo alone had recorded 136 shootings that killed or injured 55 people by mid-July 2023, with ten deaths tallied by that August.
For now, the case near Canterbury Circle remains active as investigators work to identify who opened fire. Police have not said whether any additional updates are expected in the coming days.
