A 27-year-old Vineland man is facing charges after police say he fled the scene of a crash that killed a pedestrian on West Park Avenue last Sunday night. Tyrone A. Bordley Jr. was charged in connection with the crash that killed 56-year-old Emiliano Ortega-Dominguez, a Vineland resident.
Authorities said the crash happened the evening of Nov. 1 near the intersection of West Park and Lynn avenues, according to nj.com. Police found Ortega-Dominguez lying along the south curb line near 34 West Park Ave., the outlet reported. He was transported to Cooper Hospital, where he died from his injuries, authorities said.
Bordley was charged with second-degree leaving the scene of a fatal motor vehicle accident and third-degree possession of a controlled dangerous substance, alleged to be MDMA, per the same account. Vineland police's Traffic Safety Unit identified the vehicle involved as a 2006 Hyundai Sonata, and officers located the car in Vineland on Nov. 3 — two days after the crash. As the Cherry Hill Courier-Post notes, police say Bordley fled the scene of the crash that killed Ortega-Dominguez.
A Separate Hit-and-Run Case Across Town
Vineland police have also investigated a separate fatal pedestrian hit-and-run. In that case, officers responded around 6 a.m. to the area of East Sherman Avenue and South Lincoln Avenue for a reported crash involving a pedestrian, according to News 12 New Jersey.
In that case, police issued motor vehicle summonses for leaving the scene of a collision causing death and failing to report a collision, the station reported, adding that no criminal charges had been filed. The two cases are not described as connected, and it remains unclear whether the circumstances of each crash were similar.
Earlier Fatal Crash on West Landis Avenue
Vineland saw another fatal pedestrian crash reported in August, when 52-year-old Leslie F. Willoe was struck and killed on West Landis Avenue, according to WPG Talk Radio. At the time of that report, police said no criminal charges had been filed in connection with her death.
No further updates on the status of Bordley's case, including any court appearance or additional charges, have been reported.
