Capricci's True Italian has permanently closed its downtown Waxhaw location. The restaurant, which served brick-oven pizza and pasta, announced the closure on Monday.
The announcement appeared on Instagram, according to the Charlotte Observer. The restaurant thanked customers for their support, friendship and memories shared at its tables.
The CharlotteFive report described a menu of Italian comfort food, including pasta, brick-oven pizzas, stuffed portabella and eggplant Parmesan. It also noted weekly specials, wine, draft beer and cocktails, and the restaurant’s emphasis on family recipes and fresh, local ingredients.
Reason for the Closure Remains Unclear
At the time of the CharlotteFive report, the restaurant had not responded to the outlet’s request for comment. Its Instagram account, @capriccistrueitalian, described the business as a Waxhaw restaurant offering dinner, take-out packs and catering.
A Second Waxhaw Restaurant Also Recently Shut Its Doors
Capricci's isn't the only downtown Waxhaw eatery to go dark recently. Food Geeks Eatery also closed, following a rent dispute with its landlord, according to Charlotte Observer previously reported.
Waxhaw’s Growing Downtown
Waxhaw’s dining market has grown alongside the town: census figures cited by the Town of Waxhaw show its population rose from 9,915 in 2010 to 20,534 in 2020, an increase of 108.5 percent.
The Town of Waxhaw says its Downtown Master Plan aims to strengthen downtown businesses, improve walkability and safety, expand connectivity and support thoughtful redevelopment.
The restaurant’s public note offered thanks to the community but did not provide further details about the closure.
