A woman is behind bars after deputies say she opened fire toward the owner of a Winnsboro motorsports shop as she left following an argument with employees on Monday afternoon. Fairfield County Sheriff's Office deputies rushed to Burbage Motorsports at 70 Independence Road just before 4 p.m. after reports of shots fired, and the suspect was identified and arrested.
According to WIS News 10, deputies responded to the shop at 3:49 p.m. Monday after reports of shots fired. The outlet reported that a female customer had an argument with employees at the business, and as she was leaving the property, she allegedly shot toward the business owner.
Investigators identified the suspect as Ebony Arnette, the station's report states. She was taken to the Fairfield County Detention Center and charged with possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime and attempted murder, per the same account.
What Deputies Are Still Trying to Determine
The circumstances that sparked the argument between Arnette and employees at Burbage Motorsports have not been detailed publicly, and the case's court status beyond the arrest has not been reported. The sheriff's office is asking anyone who witnessed the incident or has information to contact Investigator Robert Byrd at 803-635-4141.
Not the First Gunfire Call in Fairfield County This Year
Monday's shooting adds to a string of gunfire incidents investigated by the Fairfield County Sheriff's Office this year. In April, the agency investigated a shooting on Blair Circle in Winnsboro in which a 7-year-old girl was injured, according to Blythewood Online. Investigators said seven people arrived in two vehicles and fired no fewer than 18 rounds into a home and a nearby vehicle, and seven individuals were ultimately charged in that case.
In another incident, deputies responded to the Pilot Travel Center on State Highway 200 around 2:15 p.m. after reports of gunfire, WLTX reported. No one was shot in that case, though authorities said some people received minor injuries in a fight that accompanied the gunfire.
