A 24-year-old woman was slashed in the head, face and hands during a dispute with two unidentified people on the southbound platform at the 167th Street subway station in Highbridge on Friday. The attackers fled the scene immediately after, and police are still searching for them.
According to News12, the woman was standing on the platform when she became involved in a verbal dispute with two unidentified people. Investigators told the outlet the suspects displayed an unknown sharp object before cutting the victim and running off. EMS transported her to Lincoln Hospital, where she was reported in stable condition.
The NYPD is asking anyone with information on the attack to call its Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS. No further details about the suspects' descriptions or the exact time of the confrontation have been released.
A Station With a Troubled Recent History
Friday's slashing is the latest in a string of violent incidents reported at or near the 167th Street station in recent months, though each involved different circumstances and dates. In October, four suspects attacked a 31-year-old man on a northbound 4 train, with one spraying him with mace while another stole his fanny pack before the group fled the train at the elevated 167th Street stop, Hoodline previously reported.
Other cases nearby stretch back further. In July 2025, a 31-year-old rider was stabbed in the stomach while on a southbound 4 train pulling into the same station, according to News12, which said he was recovering. A separate incident described by the outlet involved three suspects who robbed and assaulted a 39-year-old man on the 4 train platform at 167th Street and River Avenue around 2 a.m., ripping a chain off his neck, stabbing him in the chest and punching him repeatedly.
Elsewhere in the area, a 22-year-old man was slashed in the face near East 167th Street and River Avenue in broad daylight, with News12 reporting that the suspect displayed a knife before fleeing. And further north, amNY reported that a 24-year-old man's face was sliced with an unidentified sharp object on a 4-line platform at the Fordham Road station.
What the Numbers Do and Do Not Show
Citywide transit crime figures paint a mixed picture, though none of the available statistics are specific to the 167th Street station or this particular case. An April report citing NYPD data found that year-to-date transit felonies were down 1.5 percent and assaults were down 5.5 percent, even as transit robberies climbed to 136 from 118 over the same period the year before, per ABC7 New York.
A separate report from amNY noted that the 52nd Precinct logged 23 transit crimes year-to-date through June 21, three more than at the same point in 2025. And as Hoodline reported in October, Bronx major crime overall was down 11.9 percent year to date compared with a year earlier, even as felony assaults inside the subway system and citywide hate crimes were rising.
Those figures cover different time periods, geographic areas and offense categories, and none of them establish a trend specific to the Highbridge station or Friday's attack. For now, the investigation into who slashed the 24-year-old woman remains open, with police relying on the public for leads.
