A woman was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after a multi-vehicle crash in the 4400 block of Cane Run Road in Louisville's St. Denis neighborhood. Louisville Metro Police said two people were taken to the hospital following the collision, which happened just before 5 p.m. on Wednesday.
According to WLKY, police said two people were taken to the hospital, and one of them, a woman, suffered injuries officers described as life-threatening. A second report from WDRB said the woman was taken to UofL Hospital with life-threatening injuries, while a second person was also hospitalized, though that person's condition was not known.
Exact timing of the police response has varied slightly between reports. WDRB's station reported that officers responded at 4:53 p.m. to the 4400 block of Cane Run Road, while a separate WDRB report put the response at around 4:52 p.m. WLKY, citing LMPD, said the crash happened just before 5 p.m.
Investigation Still in Early Stages
LMPD's Traffic Unit is investigating the crash, per the WLKY report. No information about what caused the collision was immediately available, and the same WDRB account noted that the investigation was ongoing, with no further details released on the circumstances of the crash.
Cane Run Road has seen other serious crashes reported in recent coverage, though none of those incidents has been tied to Wednesday's collision. In one case reported by WHAS11, officers responded to a collision near Logistics Drive around 5:30 p.m., where police said speed may have been a factor; both the driver and passenger in that crash were taken to UofL Hospital. In a separate incident reported by a Yahoo-published report, an 18-year-old identified as Rontrail Taylor was arrested after police said he caused a four-vehicle crash near Crums Lane around 5:45 p.m.; four people in the other vehicles were treated at the scene for minor injuries, and Taylor was charged with reckless driving, no operator's license, leaving the scene of an accident, and fleeing or evading police, among other offenses.
What Remains Unknown
No cause has been determined for Wednesday's crash on Cane Run Road, and police have not released the identities of either person taken to the hospital. The condition of the second patient remains unclear, and LMPD's Traffic Unit has not announced any further updates as the investigation continues.
