A woman died Friday morning after being stabbed in northeast Baltimore, according to police. Officers were called to the scene not by a 911 report of violence, but by staff at a hospital who noticed a patient arriving with stab wounds.

Baltimore police say Good Samaritan Hospital staff contacted the department to report a serious stabbing, as reported by WBFF. When officers arrived at the hospital, they found doctors already working to treat the woman for her injuries. Despite that treatment, police say she ultimately died.

Homicide detectives have taken over the investigation, though as of Friday police had not released the woman's identity, the precise location where the stabbing occurred, or any information about a suspect or motive. Police are asking anyone with information to contact detectives at 410-396-2100, or to reach out anonymously through Metro Crime Stoppers at 1-866-7LOCKUP.

Part of a Mixed Year for Violent Crime in Baltimore

Friday's case adds to a string of fatal stabbings that have rattled Baltimore neighborhoods this year. In July, an 18-year-old woman identified as Brielle Handy was fatally stabbed near Love of God Apostolic Church in southwest Baltimore, according to CBS News Baltimore. Police said at the time that Handy later died at Shock Trauma.

Earlier in the summer, police arrested a 50-year-old Baltimore resident in connection with the fatal stabbing of a 56-year-old woman following a dispute in the city's eastern district, per the Baltimore Sun's report. That case, too, appears unrelated to Friday's incident in northeast Baltimore.

Citywide Homicide Numbers Show Conflicting Snapshots

Baltimore's overall violent crime statistics in 2026 depend heavily on when they were measured. A statement from Baltimore City's mayor's office cited 102 homicides so far in 2026, compared with 109 at the same point in 2025, alongside 260 nonfatal shootings versus 258 the previous year, figures reported through October. A separate account from the same CBS News Baltimore report put the year's homicide count at 57 as of a Monday morning count, compared with 81 at the same point in 2025 — a 30 percent decrease — along with 185 nonfatal shootings compared with 183 the year before.

Those two sets of numbers come from different points in the year and are not directly comparable to one another. Still, both reflect a city tracking a modest decline in homicides relative to 2025, even as nonfatal shootings have ticked up slightly or held steady depending on the measurement window.

For now, Friday's stabbing remains an open homicide investigation. Police have not said whether the case is connected to any of the earlier incidents, and no additional details about the circumstances have been released.
