A woman was hospitalized late Monday night after being shot in the 400 block of Nicholson Street in Norfolk, with officers finding her injured at the scene before rushing her to a local hospital. Police have not released any suspect information, and the shooting adds to a stretch of gun violence that has rattled the same stretch of street in recent months.
According to WAVY.com, officers were dispatched to the 400 block of Nicholson Street after a report of a gunshot victim, and located the injured woman at the scene before she was transported to a local hospital. Officials said her injuries were not considered life-threatening at the time of reporting, though no suspect information had been made available.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact Norfolk Crime Line, per the station's report. The case remains one of several shootings reported along Nicholson Street this year, though the evidence does not establish whether this latest incident is connected to those earlier reports.
A Pattern of Violence on the Same Block
Monday's shooting is not the first time officers have responded to gunfire on Nicholson Street. In one earlier case, police said officers were called to the 400 block at 10:20 a.m. for a report of a shooting, and a person was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries; at the time, police said there was no suspect information available, the same outlet reported.
In another incident on the same block, officers found one male gunshot victim after a call that came in just after midnight on an early Sunday morning, according to the station's reporting. Police said that investigation remained ongoing, with no additional details released. Separately, in Norfolk's nearby Young Terrace neighborhood, 38-year-old Bernard Robinson died after being found with life-threatening injuries in the 300 block of Nicholson Street, a case WTKR reported remains under investigation by Norfolk police.
Citywide Homicides Up Sharply This Year
The shooting comes as Norfolk grapples with a troubling rise in homicides this year. Norfolk Police Chief Mark Talbot said homicides were up 65% as of Aug. 25, with 28 recorded compared to 17 at the same point in 2025, according to The Virginian-Pilot.
At the same time, other violent crime indicators moved in the opposite direction. The newspaper reported that nonfatal shootings dipped slightly, with 16 reported in the first six months of 2026 compared to 17 during the same period in 2025, while overall reported violent crime declined 3%, from 532 to 517 incidents. No arrests or suspect details have been announced in connection with Monday's shooting on Nicholson Street.
