A woman was found shot outside in the 8100 block of 15th Avenue in Prince George's County and later pronounced dead at the scene, while a teenage girl injured in the same incident was rushed to a hospital in critical condition. Police have not released details about what led to the shooting or identified any suspects.
Officers responded to the block at approximately 1:50 a.m. Tuesday after receiving a report of a shooting, according to WJLA. There, they found the woman outside suffering from a gunshot wound; she was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The teenage girl was transported to a hospital in critical condition, the station reported.
Detectives Still Searching for a Motive
Homicide detectives are working to identify potential suspects and determine what prompted the shooting, per the same report. As of the station's reporting, police had released no additional details about the circumstances that led to the attack, and no arrests have been announced.
Anyone with information has been asked to contact Prince George's County Police Homicide Unit detectives at 301-516-2512, the station noted. The relationship, if any, between the woman and the teenage girl has not been disclosed in available reporting.
Part of a Rough Stretch for Maryland Suburbs
The shooting comes amid what The Washington Times described as a spate of violence in recent days across Maryland suburbs that claimed five lives and left four others wounded. The same report cited county statistics showing 37 homicides logged so far in 2026 through October 31, which it said represented a 31% decrease compared with the same point the previous year.
Those figures track a broader shift county officials have been highlighting. The Washington Post reported that Prince George's County police had investigated 65 homicides as of late December 2025, including cases in the county's cities and towns, following a 2024 that ended with 114 homicide investigations — the fourth consecutive year the county's total topped 100.
FOX Baltimore similarly reported that the county was on pace to finish 2025 with fewer than 100 homicides for the first time in several years, with 66 murders recorded as of that point. Police Chief George Nader attributed the decline to a mix of strategies, saying, “Strategies such as problem-oriented policing, blue lights night initiatives, enhanced domestic violence partnerships and advanced analytics through our real-time crime center are making measurable differences,” according to FOX Baltimore.
Earlier Cases
In January 2026, the Prince George's County Police Department said a 20-year-old man, identified as Anderson Andrade Orellana of Silver Spring, was shot in the 1300 block of University Boulevard. Detectives said they were working to determine a motive and identify a suspect or suspects, and offered a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to an arrest and indictment, according to the department's report.
Other cases have also drawn scrutiny. In 2021, officers found 18-year-old Cristopher Sanchez with multiple gunshot wounds in the 8000 block of New Hampshire Avenue and he died at the scene, The Washington Post reported at the time. In a separate case, NBC Washington reported that a Langley Park homicide victim, 29-year-old Hyattsville mother Maury Carias Garcia, was known to a person of interest, according to police.
No arrests have been announced in Tuesday's shooting, and police have not said whether it is connected to any of the earlier cases. The investigation remains active, and anyone with information is urged to contact detectives at the number listed above.
