A woman’s quick stop to vote early at O’Brien Park turned into a headache when she discovered her wallet missing from the top of her car — and within a day, someone was already trying to use her credit card across town. Now the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office wants the public’s help identifying the person shown on surveillance video who detectives believe attempted the purchase.

According to KTUL, the woman told detectives she had left her wallet on top of her vehicle while visiting O’Brien Park for early voting on Oct. 28. She realized it was missing a short time later, returned to the park to look for it, and came up empty-handed.

The next day, Oct. 29, she got a notification that someone had attempted to use her credit card at a convenience store near East 45th Street North and North Lewis Avenue, the station reports. Detectives later obtained surveillance footage showing a person they believe tried to use the stolen card, though the man’s identity has not been determined.

Sheriff’s Office Turns to the Public for Leads

With the suspect still unidentified, the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone who recognizes the man in the footage to come forward. Investigators are directing tips either to the sheriff’s office directly or to Crime Stoppers at 918-596-COPS, the same report notes.

A separate Tulsa case also involved a lost wallet and attempted fraudulent charges. In a separate case detailed by NewsOn6, Tulsa police sought help identifying a person accused of using a stolen credit card after a wallet was lost outside a QuikTrip. That incident happened around 4:30 a.m. on June 29 near East 31st Street and South 129th East Avenue, and surveillance video reportedly showed someone picking up the wallet before leaving with a group of people who had been outside the store. Police said the victim’s card was used multiple times at that same QuikTrip later that day and again the following day.

Pattern of Public Appeals in Property Crime Cases

The sheriff’s office has leaned on similar public appeals before. In another case, deputies and Crime Stoppers sought information on a man caught on video stealing merchandise from a Family Dollar store in the 5600 block of North Peoria on Jan. 13, according to the earlier KTUL report. As in the wallet case, investigators released footage in hopes that someone in the community could put a name to the face.

For now, the identity of the man seen attempting to use the stolen card near East 45th Street North and North Lewis Avenue remains unknown, and it’s unclear whether he successfully made a purchase. The sheriff’s office is counting on tipsters to help close that gap.
