A 35-year-old woman was found shot in the head inside a home on the 4700 block of Benner Street in Philadelphia Wednesday night, left fighting for her life after officers discovered her alone and unresponsive on the kitchen floor. She had only recently moved into the house, according to police, and was by herself when officers arrived.
A 911 caller reported the shooting just after 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to NBC10, which reported that officers arrived to find the woman lying on the kitchen floor with a gunshot wound to her head. She was unresponsive, and officers rushed her to a nearby hospital, where she was taken into surgery and placed in extremely critical condition, the station reported. Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small told the station that she had just moved into the house and was by herself when officers found her.
FOX 29 Philadelphia reported that the woman was shot around 8:45 p.m. and remains in critical condition, fighting for her life, according to police. That outlet identified the location as Bridesburg, while NBC10 and 6abc placed the home in the Wissinoming section of the city — a discrepancy that remains unresolved in local reporting.
No Weapon, No Suspect Description
As of Wednesday night, investigators had not found a weapon connected to the shooting and did not have a description of the suspect, per the NBC10 report. 6abc similarly reported that authorities had not released a description of a suspect, and that no weapon was recovered from the scene, according to 6abc. That station also reported that the victim was transported to a nearby hospital, where she remained in critical condition.
Investigators are examining surveillance cameras from nearby homes as part of their investigation, the NBC10 report noted. No arrests or suspect information had been announced as of the latest local reporting.
