A 21-year-old York City man is facing an attempted homicide charge after police say he pulled up alongside another man's car early Sunday morning and fired a shot, leaving the victim bleeding from a forehead wound before friends rushed him to the hospital. Police said a witness who followed the victim's vehicle had an active protection-from-abuse order against the suspect, Carlos Luis Bracero, at the time of the shooting.

The shooting happened around 3:54 a.m. on Nov. 1 at West College Avenue and South Beaver Street, according to York Daily Record. The victim told police he and friends were leaving a party near William Penn Senior High School when a car pulled alongside them. People inside that car asked whether he was Fabi, and when he answered yes, he heard a shot, the report states.

Bracero allegedly fired at the victim's car while it was stopped at a red light at West College Avenue and South Pershing Avenue before driving away, per the report. Investigators later found bullet damage to the driver's-side rear passenger door of the victim's vehicle, along with a bullet lodged in the frame of the front passenger-side door.

Victim Rushed to Hospital by Friends

Rather than wait for emergency responders, the friends in the car with the victim pulled him out of the driver's seat and drove him to the hospital themselves, the outlet's report notes. Police said the man suffered a bleeding and swollen laceration to the left side of his forehead. York City police later went to WellSpan York Hospital, where the victim had been transported by private vehicle, according to court documents cited in the report.

A witness separately told police that Bracero pulled on the handle of her locked car door in an attempt to open it, the same account states. That detail was included among the evidence gathered as investigators built their case against him.

Bracero Faces Long List of Charges

Bracero, described in the report as a 21-year-old York City man, was charged with attempted homicide in connection with the shooting. He also faces four felony counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and one felony count of carrying a firearm without a license, the newspaper's report indicates.

Additional charges include four counts each of making terroristic threats, reckless endangerment and simple assault, plus four summary harassment charges. Bracero also faces misdemeanor charges of being a person not to possess a firearm and disorderly conduct, per the same account. His bail was set at $1 million, and he was placed in York County Prison. A preliminary hearing in the case is scheduled for Dec. 3.

Other Recent York City Shootings

The case adds to a string of recent shootings in York City. A separate incident injured a 48-year-old man in the 100 block of Arch Street around 9:30 p.m. on Oct. 14, leaving him with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound before he was transported to a hospital for treatment, according to a report from Yahoo News.

In another case, a shooting on South Pershing Avenue around 9 p.m. left a 41-year-old man critically injured, and 19-year-old O'Mari Michael was charged with attempted homicide in connection with it, according to WGAL. The allegations against Bracero remain just that — allegations outlined in court documents — as his case moves toward next month's preliminary hearing.
