A Yuba County arrest on Oct. 15 was followed by a search in Sacramento County, where authorities say they found additional cocaine, opium, ten firearms and cash. The suspect was taken into custody with roughly one kilogram of cocaine, then booked into the Yuba County Jail on drug-related offenses once the follow-up search was complete.
According to Yahoo News, the Yuba County Sheriff's Office's Problem Oriented Policing team worked alongside the California Highway Patrol to make the initial arrest in Yuba County. The report states the suspect was found in possession of around one kilogram of cocaine at the time. The Yuba County Sheriff's Department also had a Facebook post associated with the case.
Search Warrant Turns Up Even More Drugs and Guns
Once the arrest was made, authorities didn't stop there. The same report notes that deputies and CHP personnel served a search warrant in Sacramento County, where they located an additional two and one-half kilograms of cocaine, roughly four and one-half pounds of opium, ten firearms, and an unspecified amount of U.S. currency. Investigators also said they found evidence indicating narcotics sales, though the report does not detail what that evidence consisted of.
The suspect's identity, the exact charges filed, and the amount of cash recovered were not disclosed in the available reporting. It's also unclear who owned or controlled the firearms, drugs, and money found at the Sacramento County property, since that detail wasn't addressed in the account provided.
Not the Only Recent Case for Yuba's P.O.P. Team
This wasn't the only operation the Problem Oriented Policing team was involved in around the same date. A separate search warrant executed that same Oct. 15 on New York House Road in Brownsville led to another arrest, though accounts of that case diverge on key details. The Appeal-Democrat reports the man arrested was identified as Wilber Cummings, 58, of Brownsville, accused of possessing methamphetamine, as described by the Appeal-Democrat. Fox40, however, spelled the suspect's name Wilbur Cummings and reported the charges involved manufacturing and possessing a destructive device along with narcotics, according to Fox40.
The sheriff's office has had a busy stretch of drug and weapons enforcement in the surrounding area. In late August, a search warrant in Olivehurst turned up seven assault rifles, eight handguns, about two pounds of opium, and $39,700 in currency, resulting in one arrest, the Appeal-Democrat reported separately. And back on June 9, a larger joint operation spanning Yuba and Sacramento counties seized nearly 30 pounds of cocaine, five firearms, and around 1,000 marijuana plants, leading to 12 arrests on federal and state charges, according to the Sacramento Bee.
Taken together, the cases show a steady cadence of narcotics and firearms investigations touching both Yuba and Sacramento counties over the past several months. In the Oct. 15 case, the suspect was booked into the Yuba County Jail on drug-related offenses as the investigation continues.
