Backspace to Close - Or Has it Already?

Well, this one kinda snuck up on us.

Backspace, the women's boutique that has occupied 351 Divisadero since 2006, announced that it is closing this week. And, given that today is Friday and the store currently appears to be closed at 1pm, we're wondering whether the shut-down has already occurred. In an email, owner Susan Jones writes:

It is with mixed emotions that we are announcing that Backspace will be closing. We would like to Thank all of our loyal customers who have supported us over the years at Backspace, as well as some of our other stores. We will be having a private sale for our customers Wednesday evening, Sept 15th from 6-9.30/10pm before we start our sale to the public. We want to offer you the best selection of merchandise at the better discount. We would love to see you all, so even is you cannot shop, please come by and join us for cocktails!!! XO~ Susan & Gizmo

Of course, September 15th was two days ago -- so, hmmm. Jones is apparently going to be taking a job at the Bloomingdale's in Union Square. In the meantime, if anyone has more information about Backspace's current status, we're all ears! Update 9/17/2010: We just heard from Backspace -- they're still open, and won't be closing until mid-October. So get over there and scoop up some sale items, gang!
