While the race for the White House is still nine months away, the Hayes Valley Neighborhood Association (HVNA) is holding their annual elections this Thursday to determine their new board and vote on bylaw revisions.
The current President, Karen Mauney-Brodek, writes in her bi-monthly column that a nomination committee has prepared a slate of candidates and three bylaws are looking to be passed. The topics of the bylaws include enlarging the geographic boundaries of the organization, annual membership cycles and how the fiscal year is determined. She also mentions that you need to be a member to vote in Thursday's election, but you can renew your membership at the meeting. Memberships cost between $15-$25 and can be paid in check or cash. In addition to the election, this Thursday's meeting will feature a special guest. Our newly appointed District 5 Supervisor, Christina Olague, will also be attending. According to their website, the mission of the HVNA is "to promote a sense of friendly association and community involvement throughout Hayes Valley; preserve and reinforce our neighborhood’s cultural and economic diversity, historic character, beauty and architecture; and insure our community’s constructive participation in San Francisco’s governmental process." The HVNA meets on the last Thursday of each month at 7pm in the Hayes Valley Playground Clubhouse (699 Hayes).
