Odds and ends this week: Art shows, St Patty's Day Celebrations, a tribute to the Mayor of Haight Street, and more.
R.I.P. Jake Wilson, Mayor of Haight Street The Haight said goodbye last week to one of its more remarkable fixtures: Jake the English bulldog, who spent many an hour guarding the corner of Haight and Shrader in the doorway of Blade Runners hair salon. There's a nice obit for him here, where you can see more pictures of his squinty little face. Also, Blade Runners has thrown together a shrine outside for him (pictured above), and it's worth strolling by and checking out all the great photos of Jake's mug. (Bring tissues.) We're going to miss his tiny eyes, and his goofy pink tongue, and jumping a little when we realize he's not a statue. Art Show AT SFO Snowboarding After a Thursday night kickoff party at Milk Bar, SFO Snowboarding is launching an art show in-store on Saturday, March 17, featuring Bigfoot and Mike Giant, to celebrate their new collaborative snowboard design, which looks like this. In addition, they'll have original art from both artists available through the end of the month. Get You Saint Patrick's Day On at Trax Trax Bar at 1437 Haight is throwing another all-out holiday party for St. Patrick's Day this Saturday the 17th, so be sure to bring your shiny hat and your green beads. There's bound to be something crazy going on, and you might even see us there. Put on YourDrinking Thinking Cap

Good News for Bikers
A bill introduced by Supervisor John Avalos requiring commercial business owners to have secure indoor bike parking or allow customers to bring their bikes into buildings, passed 9-2. It takes effect in 30 days. Until then, lock and pray.
Bettie Page St. Patty's Day Sale
25% off selected green items at Bettie Page, 1529 Haight, until the 18th, for your retro repro needs.
Stirrings at People's
People's Cafe at 1419 Haight has been closed since a fire ravaged the building in August of 2011, and not much has changed. Recently, there's been some activity in the space. The windows have been papered over, someone hung a shiny new work notice, and Restoration Management Company has stenciled their logo above the doors. We'll keep an eye on this.
