David Talbot's Season of the Witch is the first big history of San Francisco to come around in a while.
We're bringing it to your attention because, as you might expect, a lot of the book is about the Haight, and how it got to be the funny little place we know and love today. Talbot is the founder of Salon.com, and has lived in San Francisco for decades. The book is a conversational romp through a lot of San Francisco's (and the Haight's) major and minor celebrities, both living and dead, and Talbot got interviews with most of the living ones. For those of you interested in getting to know more about how San Francisco got to be the way it is today, the book is a great read. You can also come hear him talk about it and swap war stories at the Booksmith (where, as a disclaimer, we also work), next Wednesday, May 16 at 7:30.
