Construction is well underway for the new housing and retail space at Market and 16th Street (2299 Market Street). The space will be featuring 1 retail unit and 18 living units consisting of eight one-bedroom homes, nine two-bedroom homes, and one three-bedroom home. There will also be off-street parking available for residents in an underground parking garage that opens onto 16th street. The space is replacing a hole in the ground that has sat empty for over 30 years after a fire took down Trinity Methodist Church in 1981. SocketSite.com reported that early renderings included an Apple Store at the ground floor level retail space, but those who have heard the design team's presentation said there was no indication given that a lease with the retailer had been signed. I think the design looks pretty typical of every other condo project that's been going on in the city. In a word: boring. What are your thoughts on the design?
