We are drenched in orange. Doused, soaked, bleeding, sweating Orange and Black.
We fall asleep and dream about Hunter Pence’s rippling back muscles and Marco Scutaro's sincere and unassuming demeanor and Buster Posey's knock-down drag-out take no prisoners comeback (and Barry Zito's, for that matter). We're all wearing our 2010 rally thongs for prosperity.
And so, it is important for us to impart some knowledge of our local watering holes boasting Series screenings in the following week.
Place Pigalle, 520 Hayes This bar has seen several changes in the last year, all renovations and updates for the better. It's strictly beer and wine (with an emphasis on the beer), and those beers are completely worth the stop. A jukebox, a pool table, and local art complement this neighborhood staple. The front half of the bar is homey, comfortable, and warmly lit. The second half holds all the artwork wrapped around a pool table, as well as foosball, and plenty of seating. Unfortunately the establishment has only one television, but you can bet the crowd for the boys in orange will be substantial and enthusiastic. Marlena's, 488 Hayes This place is already decked out for the Giants, the Series aside. It's time for Halloween, and every nook and cranny is spilling giant spiders, pumpkins, lights, and webs. The bar is a staple in the neighborhood – widely known for its incredible drag shows on Saturday nights. It's a full bar, and expects an exuberant crowd for every game in the Series. Marlena's has passion, energy, and is never short on fabulous dance numbers. Most importantly: they love their Giants. Dobbs Ferry, 409 Gough/406Hayes Dobbs Ferry has the luxury of being the only bar in the neighborhood with a half dozen televisions. They're banking on the World Series bringing shoulder to shoulder business, and it will be completely worth the while. With a full bar, seven beers on tap, and an abundant cocktail menu (as well as small bites and an adjacent full restaurant), it's a well-rounded experience. Three bartenders will be manning the helm every game night, and the service is always warm, friendly, and excited. Don’t forget to duck over to our aforementioned Buck Tavern (1655 Market St.) for a game or two, as they're leaving our fair neighborhood on All Hallow's Eve. The games are all scheduled at 5pm Pacific time on the 24th, 25th, 27th, and 28th of October – and if necessary, the 29th and 31st of October, and 1st of November. Go Giants, and we'll see you out there!!
