Album Preview: Toro Y Moi's "Anything In Return"
Toro Y Moi (street name Chazwick Bundick, producer and chanteuse extraordinaire), the 26-year-old who exploded on the music scene after releasing his second album, 2011's Underneath the Pine, is ready to take the bay by storm with his third studio LP.

In case you don't remember him, Toro Y Moi also made a name for himself remixing the other latest up-and-comers over the last year and a half or so: Washed Out, Neon Indian and Cut Copy, among others. (His mixes are worth tracking down.) The new album, Anything in Return, is an unpretentious, charming foray into the world of audial pastiche: groovy jazz-oriented vocals round out long, relaxed 4/4 beats and signature house vocal hooks, and the album is punctuated by groovy funk synth and hip-hop calls and responses. It's a confident, fun, experimental foray beyond genres, and likely to be one of the bigger chillout albums of the year. The album marks Mr. Bundick's return to the Bay Area (he now calls Berkeley home), and we hope this means the beginning of a long, happy presence by the bay. Whatever you want to say, Mr. Bundick has quite an ear, and we're happy to hear what he's sharing with us. The new album drops January 22, and launches a nationwide tour that'll come back to San Francisco March 1 and 2 at the Independent (tickets $22).
